The job of a machinist can be physically demanding and is more than just standing in front of a lathe. You must have the physical ability to lift heavy tools and operate those tools to disassemble pumps in the shop. Most of the machine work is unique and custom, and therefore done on a manual lathe, not on a CNC machine. It is important to have innate mechanical aptitude to be able to grasp the everyday tasks required. As you gain experience machining pump parts there will be an opportunity to take classes and receive training on pump design and installation. Opportunities for internal advancement available.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Drilling operations
  • Assist with Rig Repair and Maintenance.
  • Load and unload trucks
  • Move equipment to and from drill sites
  • Assist with well development
  • Can lift 50+ pounds safely throughout the day

Desired Skills:

  • Exposed to air rotary, mud rotary, reverse circulation and flooded reverse rotary drilling methods
  • Familiarity with casing advance systems a plus
  • Proficient in welding and cutting
  • General mechanic skills a plus
  • Willing to adhere to strict safety rules and regulations
  • CDL required
  • Idaho and Wyoming Water Well Driller License a plus
  • MSHA Certifications a plus

40-60 hrs/week

Year-round full-time

  • Properly install and remove column assemblies for pumps
  • Perform preventative maintenance on pump rigs and service trucks
  • Maintain documentation
  • Prepare and keep a maintenance log for assigned vehicles and equipment

Qualifications / Skills

  • 2+ years experience with turbine pumps
  • 2+ years experience running a pump rig
  • 2+ years experience running a boom truck
  • 2+ years experience managing a crew of 2-3
  • Current class A (with airbrakes) CDL
  • Experience wiring pump motors
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems on equipment and pumps
  • Experience or willingness to learn troubleshooting and repair of submersible pumps
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed to complete jobs in progress
  • Willingness to travel within 200 miles and stay overnight as needed to complete jobs
  • Must follow all safety processes and procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to accept feedback productively

Our Work Environment

The job of assistant rig operator is physically demanding. You must have the physical ability to lift heavy tools and operate those tools to disassemble pumps and column assemblies. It is also important to have some innate mechanical aptitude to be able to grasp the everyday tasks required. You will be working closely with an experienced rig operator.
